May Arts Ribbon Organization Blog Hop & Giveaway Day 3

Today is Day 3 of the May Arts Design Team Ribbon Organization Blog Hop!  If you missed Days 1 & 2,  it's not too late to get in.  Scroll down to find a complete list, then click away to comment and win some ribbon so you can organize your own awesome May Arts ribbon!

As you might have imagined, the May Arts Design Team acquires a lot of ribbon.  Since everyone's storage situations are different, we thought you might like to see the different ways we store our ribbons.

You may have heard me lament that I have only one full wall in my studio.  One wall!  I keep my paper, storage unit and cutting/embossing area there.

The second wall is broken by a walk in closet and hallway door, the third wall has a bathroom door and the fourth wall isn't a wall at all.  It's all glass...a set of sliding glass doors that open up the entire wall.

That means there's no where to put a ribbon rack so we had to get creative.  We went to IKEA and got this free standing kitchen island.  The drawers are very deep and it gives me a work surface as well.  I have two other pieces from this collection in my work room as well.  We opted for these for the storage potential and so we can take them with us if and when we move.

It's finished on all 4 sides so it sits in the center of my studio.  Here's what my ribbon looks like:

I organize my ribbons mostly by color since I don't have the room to store by style.

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule!  ;-)

The bottom drawer is similarly organized and also holds my ribbon scraps.  The drawers also keep my ribbon dust free and safe from sunlight.

Now it's time to take a look at how some of the other Ribbonistas store their ribbons.  We've got an every other day hop planned for you so be sure to check back in and hop along.

The Ribbon Lady will be giving away 3 full rolls of May Arts Ribbon (winners choice) so be sure to leave plenty of comments on each Ribbonistas blog for your chance to win.

I love that cabinet...while it's wonderful to see all of the beautiful ribbon displayed on an open wall, I like the idea that the riboon will stay dust free! And I always need more work space, or areas to put my tools.

Great cabinet - I used to have them all in a deep drawer and now I have them on a half wall.

The Ikea kitchen island with drawers is a great idea. I like that you pointed out that it keeps your ribbon dust free! I too keep mine in a tall 4 drawer dresser. I don't like open shelves because of the dust issue. Otherwize they have to be in a sealed plastic tote.

What a neat way to store your ribbons. I love that cabinet idea. I am using some cabinet space for some of mine and the rest are in little baskets. And, I have a space limitation so not sure I could put another cabinet anywhere at all. But I will certainly keep this idea in mind.

I love drawers like this! To search and find that one special piece of ribbon you saved "just in case it's needed!" Thanks for sharing your ribbon drawers!

Gotta love Ikea and all there items that can be turned into great scrap room organization.

Nice Charlene! Deep drawers would work well for me too. I feel your pain with regard to the whole wall issue. I live in an old farmhouse and my craft room is upstairs. I have sloped ceilings to contend with and only one wall that isn't interrupted by a door or window. Of course that wall has a sloped ceiling so I am in the process of finding ways to make the best use of the space that I do have!

I love the island idea... I have a wall of storage on one full wall by the door (most of it for the doll house miniatures I do). On the opposite wall I have a long banquet table under a window with storage on the sides and on the back of the table. Then in the middle of the room I have another long table that I can move easily in either direction. If I am working on minis, I push the table towards the scrapping area. If I am scrapping, I push the table towards the mini storage. That way I have plenty of wiggle room at all times for whatever I am working on!! The wall between the mini wall and the scrapping wall is also lined with scrapping storage on one side of the wall and mini storage on the other side. It is like two rooms in one!!

What a sweet little cabinet! Your ribbons look so pretty :) I store mine in drawers too, but I have the rolling plastic cart with the various sized drawers. Right now I have 2 of those drawers full of ribbon, but I need to clean out a third drawer for more! That cart is supposed to be for all of my different embellishment but I love ribbon and if I'm not careful, it will end up all ribbon... sigh. Wouldn't that be a shame - not! Thanks for sharing Charlene!

Love all the storage ideas!!!

that is a good idea to use the cabinet. It does dual-purpose - storage and work space. I wish I could find room in my crafting area for something like this.
