Gift Card Holder and a reminder

TGIF!!  It's Friday and that usually means I have a Foodie Friday post for you.  I'm actually going to save that for next week because....there's going to be a HUGE May Arts Ribbonista Blog Hop next week.  Each of the Ribbonistas has been assigned a day (about 5 per day so that you don't have to spend a ton of time trying to get to each blog).   Each of us has a project planned but it was up to us to choose so there will be surprises for everyone!  Of course there will be giveaways so be sure to stop by!

This weekend is the birthday of both my MIL and my SIL.  They share a birthday tomorrow.  My MIL will be 100 years old!!  I can only imagine all that she's seen in her lifetime..from horse and buggy to the internet!  Amazing.

Hubby and his sister are planning a special party for her but we didn't want to forget that it's also his sister's birthday.  She's a little more than a decade older than he is so we thought the best thing might be a gift card to a favorite restaurant.  I created a little non-Christmasy gift card holder for her.  These are so simple...just a half sheet of cardstock scored at 2 1/2" and 6 inches.  Fold, attach the ends of the bottom fold with some Scor-Tape or other strong tape and decorate away. 

Since he's hand carrying the holder, I went with a bumpy fun felt flower.  The smudgy color on the yellow is actually on the designer paper itself..  I do wish I had put the two words closer together but tired eyes prevailed and I didn't catch it in time.  I overstamped in grey ink to create the shadow. 

To create the little doily under the flower, I cut a 4 inch paper doily into fourths, then glued 2 pieces together so that the ends came together.  I crinkled them up a bit and used some Chai ink to soften the white.

It's a CAS Party!

I used a stamp from Alesa Baker for the beautiful packages which were colored with Copics, then glittered up with Martha Stewart Chunky Glitter.  So much prettier in IRL but photographing glitter is so hard!

Free Shipping!

Now this is something worth celebrating!

This is not a special but rather a change in the shipping policy for Rubbernecker going forward on all orders. There will no longer be separate shipping fees from separate warehouses.

Shipping fees will be a flat rate $5.95 for orders less than $25 and all other orders of $25 and more will be shipped free in the US.

We are working to modify shipping rates to Canada and to begin shipping our stamps overseas to Europe and Australia and Japan again soon. We hope to have that in place and available worldwide by January.

O Christmas Tree

The May Arts Ribbonistas are coming together to give you a little peek at our Christmas trees.  Some may be real trees, some artificial, some may be on cards or other types of decor so you'll be in for a treat.  The Ribbon Lady is giviing away prizes, so be sure to comment on each post you find linked here on the May Arts blog.

Since our grandkids live in another state we sometimes travel for the holiday which makes putting up a real tree a challenge even though it's our preference.  This year, we succumbed and bought an artificial tree.  Sigh...not my favorite but we don't have to worry about it drying out if we do decide to go away.  Besides, crawling under the tree with a water pitcher was my job and it's getting back out isn't as easy as it used to be. :-)

Our tree is 9 feet tall to capturing the entire tree is impossible without backing up so far you wouldn't be able to see it.  It stands beside the fireplace with all the stockings and our collection of Santas that are on the mantle. 

Under the tree alwasys goes the little Nativity we bought the first Christmas we were married.  It has traveled to 7 states and sat under 43 Christmas trees in 14 houses.

The garland is May Arts Wired Burlap.  Our tree is decorated with ornaments we've collected over years from friends and family.  There are crocheted bells made by my mother-in-law who will be 100 years old on Dec. 15th, glittered apples and toothpick Nativitites made by our sons when they were small and of course some of the sparkly glass ornaments I created for the May Arts/Helmar blog hop using May Arts Metallic String.

We also made little angels from Femo clay then dressed them in little May Arts ribbon dresses.

We used a little canape cutter (Tupperware) to cut the head and stars and free-formed the wings using a plastic knife to make a hole for the ribbon.  We added a thin wire at the top  of the head for hanging.

They were baked according to mfg. instructions then we added eyes and rosy cheeks with Sharpie markers.  We gave them some shimmer with some rub-on cream that's used for photo frames.

The dress is made from May Arts gorgeous double faced 1.5 inch satin in Champagne (HA-5-02) that is overlaid with May Arts 1.5 inch lace in white (NQ09).  A dab of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and a few minutes of dry time and done!

These make cute gifts for teachers and neighbors as well.

Clean and Simple, Make it Monday, Make it Sparkle!

I'm still here for those of you still wondering...I've been swamped with work and getting the house decorated, a party or two, bouts with carpal tunnel and the "have to's" of life so my stamping has been pretty non-existent. 

I had a few precious bits of time last night so put together this card for 3 challenges.  The sketch is for the SCS Clean & Simple challenge (CAS199).  The technique is for the Papertrey Ink Make it Monday  Challenge #94 to use Glitter Detail and just for fun, I'm entering this in the Sparkle Challenge on CASology #22 - Sparkle

All stamps, dies and papers are Papertrey Ink...and of course, no card is complete without a bit of May Arts ribbon so I made a slit in the fold and tied on som beautiful May Arts Red/white Baker's Twine.  (412-14)

May Arts/Helmar Blog Hop!

                     

Welcome to May Arts Ribbon and Helmar Adhesives Blog Week! We’re partnering with the talented team at Helmar to bring you 2 full days full of design and project inspiration.

Holiday time is the perfect occasion to pull out all the stops on sparkle and shine. I’ve got a quick and easy project that fits both of those categories beautifully and it won’t break your piggy bank!

Here’s your supply list:

May Arts Metallic String SJ01, SJ31, SJ09

(with so many beautiful colors to choose from you can match any décor!)

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive (LOVE this stuff!)

Clear glass ornaments –craft store

Tree branch

White spray paint

Spray Glitter (optional)

You can make dozens of these of these beautiful ornaments in no time at all which is a big bonus during the busy holiday season.

Remove the metal tops from the ornaments. If you’ve never done this, just gently squeeze and pull.

Place a dab of Helmar 450 Quick Dry on the inside of the lip of the bulb.

Cover the base of the bulb with more Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.

Wrap the Metallic String vertically, then horizontally around the ball until it’s covered to your liking. When you’re pleased with the result, just cut your ribbon and seal it to the bulb with a dab of Helmar 450.

Replace the silver tops then add more Metallic String to use as a hanger to decorate your Christmas tree or create a beautiful centerpiece for mere pennies.

I spray painted some tree branches then gave them a bit of sparkle with spray glitter.

You can even wrap up a couple of these sparkly balls for beautiful, thrifty gifts.

Who says we have to use red and green? I found these pretty boxes at a local discount store this summer. They were 3 for 99 cents! A beautiful May Arts Lace bow (NQ09) and you have a lovely gift for everyone on your gift list from teachers to neighbors and office friends.
