Teapot Tuesday -Dora's going to New Zealand

My card today is super simple because I'm nursing a bad burn on my wrist caused by steam.  Yow!  That thing hurts....but I so wanted to send a card to this week's Teapot Tuesday (MMTPT196) destination.

Cindy, our moderator tells the story much better than I could so here she is:

Baby Eva Mitchell is 4 years old and lives at Auckland's Children's Hospital full time. Eva was born with a large hole in her left diaphragm and was unable to develop internally. She was given a very slim chance of surviving at birth, but has beaten the odds more times than anyone can count. Full ecmo life support, strokes causing weakness on her left side, bad chronic lung disease, living on oxygen, stomach and bowel do not function, gastrointestinal failure and she is fed into her blood stream which makes her a sick little girl who battles every single day!! She has lived in Auckland's Children's Hospital most of her life but since being admitted in May of 2009, she has only had 5 hours at home. She teaches us to cherish life, to take everyday as it comes and to run with it because life is precious.

Eva has a Facebook page where you can see lots of photos of her and follow her story. Eva's favorite color is purple although she also loves pink. She is a big Dora the Explorer fan and likes Makeup Mouse too. She wants to be a nurse when she grows up and she loves to play doctors. Her mom is Tiff and Dad is Joel.

Eva will be thrilled to get some pretty mail. Feel free to also send her sister Mela a card if you so desire. It would be really fun if you could include some fun childlike images for the girls to color while they are spending time together in the hospital. Punched shapes might be fun as well.

The cards will be sent to a friend of the family, who will deliver them to Eva at the hospital!

Here is the address:

Eva Mitchell
24 Platina Street,
Remuera, Auckland,
New Zealand, 1050

Foodie Friday

I know...don't faint!  I've actually been back to the kitchen and baking again.  I actually did alot of baking this week but didn't think to grab the camera before it went out the door.

I made Mississippi Mud Cake for our church picnic and it was sooo good, I decided to make another.  The best part is that it takes almost no time and just a few ingredients and there's enough to share with a neighbor or two because it's baked in a half sheet cake pan.  Perfect for potlucks, too!  I adapted the recipe a bit as I found the baking time to be too long resulting in a dry cake.  I always start checking baking times early so I caught it before it dried out, thank goodness!

You can find a printable recipe at the link above...dig in!

I have a bit of sad news to report...my friend, neighbor, and the mother of my dear friend Patty, Barbara Bryan, went to heaven this past week.  You may remember that Barbara was a Teapot Tuesday destination a few weeks ago. Our prayers are being lifted in thanksgiving for her life and for her family.  A special thank you to all the Teapotters who made cards for Barbara...they are still a great comfort to her family.  The cards are going with the family to Barbara's home N. Carolina where she will be laid to rest.

Rubbernecker Father's Day Blog Hop

It's time for another Rubbernecker Stamps Blog Hop!  We're getting a head start on Father's Day.
Here are all the important details:

OUR PRIZE:

A Stamp set of your choice!
Winner to be announced on the SS Blog 4/28 (1 week to hop).

HOP DETAILS:

Follow the route below
Leave some love at each stop
Go back to the Sisterhood Blog and let them know you have hopped.

BONUS ENTRY:

As a bonus we will draw an EXTRA winner for a STAMP SET of your choice, just for sharing our hop on your Facebook page or Blog!!

After you have shared, just go back to the Stampin' Sisterhood Blog and let us know where you have shared our hop.

Here's my take on the challenge.  Our dads have passed on so I created a card that I could use for any of the male members in our family.

I used real wood for the panels.  I chose a light wood because alot of the old "Woody's" had light paneling.  I added a layer of Crystal Effects over the entire car (except for the wood) to give it some extra shine.

I used the Blogger Sketch Challenge from Lisa Somerville's blog as my starting point.

I had to move the small side panel since my car is longer.  I flipped it on it's end too.  ;-)

Supplies:
Stamps - Rubbernecker Woody 567-01, Just Because 565-22
Paper - Bazzill Basics; My Mind's Eye Glitter Book (great guy stack!)
Ink - Memento Rich Cocoa; Copics, Copic Silver pen
Other - Martha Stewart border punch; brads; foam tape; Spellbinders square dies

Your next stop is Charlene Merrick (grab some M&M's for me while you're there, will you?)  Here's a list of the hop order in case you get lost along the way.  Be sure to leave a comment on each site to be eligible to win and thanks for spending some time with us!  Good Luck!

WOYWW150 - fluffy

It's Wednesday...already!  I've got a full day as it's my morning to tutor my little kindergarteners in reading but had to pop in quickly to wave hi to the ladies over at Julia's Stamping Ground and WOYWW150.

I've just finished a special order project I've not been given the liberty to share but it turned out soooo cute!  Do you ever hate to part with things you've made?

Those fluffy balls on my desk are some rolls of fringed tissue paper I just got in the mail.  I can't wait to use them but first I've got to get my card done for the Father's Day hop at Rubbernecker Stamps...there's a hint, maybe on my desk...unless I change my mind, of course.

I've got an April Showers coupon sale in my Etsy shop but just for a couple of weeks.....

Teapot Tuesday - Ham Radio

You must forgive me,  I couldn't help myself....this week's Teapot Tuesday Destination (MMTPT194) is Charles.  Charles is an ardent ham radio buff who has been diagnosed with cancer.  He had surgery a few days ago and is in need of some serious cheering up.

When I saw this image, I just couldn't resist.  We were use the color brown, repeaters (brads), bands (twine) and letters.  The letters on the card mean, "How's my transmission?".  I hope this "ham" radio gives Charles the giggles.

some days you're the dog....

The Queen for the Day (QFTD108) over at SCS this week was none other than my Rubbernecker teamie, Charlene Merrick.   Charlene is an awesome creator and one of the newest members of the SCS, Dirty Dozen.

I tried to pick just one card to case from her fabulous gallery but I couldn't do it...she has too many!  Soooo, I decided to pick one of the images she uses alot in the adorable scene cards she creates...DOG from Rubbernecker Stamps and create my own little scene.

I just love this little guy and Charlene is the reason I own him.  She has done him in every color, including pink!  I computer generated my sentiment right on the cardstock, then built the scene around it.  I hope it's worthy of her day in the glittery sun.

Congratulations, Queen Charlene!!

Supplies:
Stamps - Rubbernecker Dog - 569-18; Papertrey Ink - Sun
Paper - Neenah; stash dp; Bazzill Basics
Ink - Memento, Copics
Other - fire hydrant die cut, cloud die from PTI, Poppy Stamps Grassland die, foam tape.

Foodie Friday...it's 5:00 somewhere

Dessert is back on the table at our house. Whoopee!  Of course, I have trouble eating it now, (which might be a good thing) due to the braces but hubby is a happy camper.

I made a carrot cake for Easter which was happily shared with a few neighbors and yesterday, I made these yummy Peanut Butter cookies again.  Hubby had a contest at work and promised the winner 2 dozen of the cookie of their choice.   No flour in these so you gluten free dieters can enjoy these!

Yummo!

How about a cool drinkt to wash down that cookie?  I played again with the Sparkle N Sprinkle sketch (SSNSC06) for this month with this cute set called Cocktails II.

WOYWW193 - a mess in progress

Guess what!?  Julia posted early!!  Woo,Hoo...that means if I type real fast, I'll be double digits instead of triple.  Will wonders never cease?

I grabbed my camera real quick and snapped a shot of a DT project in process...can't let you see too close yet but I'm hoping it will be a good one...Tune in next week to find out.

Well, there's the phone!  I'll be looking for it tomorrow.

I got braces on my teeth today...yep, over 60 and braces.  I figure my granddaughter and I will be in them at the same time so we can console one another.  I was tempted to ask for a colored ones but chickened out and got the clear ones instead.  Eating is a pain and downright ugly when salad gets stuck in there.  LOL

Be sure to head over to the Stamping Ground to see what's on the crafty desks around the globe.  Be sure to wave hi to Julia while you're there.

Teapot Tuesday Card Patterns Sketch - It's a hummer

This week's Teapot Tuesday challenge is a personal one.  Our destination is my neighbor and my friend, Barbara Bryan.  Barbara is also the mother of my dear friend, Patty.  Barbara is a vibrant, beautiful, southern Lady.  She is all at once, strong and gentle, elegant and down to earth and next month she will be 85 years old.

Barbara had a very big blockage in her heart so she went in for open heart surgery which in itself is a big deal.  Her lung was knicked or punctured while the breathing tube was being inserted which has caused some very big complications.  During surgery to clear her airway from that, she had a stroke.  Right now, her R leg is paralyzed but she can move her arms.

Barbara is orginally from N. Carolina and loves hummingbirds and dogwoods and she LOVES cards so our challenge is to send Barbara some get well wishes featuring the things she loves.  I used my beautiful hummer from Sparkle N Sprinkle set 451 Hummingbirds and Flowers

I used Card Patterns Sketch 160  as my starting point. I layered both the flower and the hummingbird and stamped the remaining part of the sentiment on the interior of the card.

Supplies:
Ink - Memento; Copic Markers; Versafine Sepia
Paper - Neenah; Basic Grey Euphoria, Bazzill shimmer
Other - Spellbinders Oval and Lacey Oval dies; metallic paint; SparkleNSprinkle Glitter - Blue Jewel G1113, Pretty Princess G1109, Bubblegum G1088; sewing machine, distressing tool; pearl trim; foam tape; corner rounder;

Clean and Simple Monday - Scallops

This week's SCS Clean and Simple Challenge is Scallops.  (CAS165)  I had my  favorite DCWV Citrus Stack out for another project...again! (I really think I'm going to have to buy another one!), so I decided to just go with it. I think the Citrus Stacks are the most fun, summery papers/cardstocks packs out there.

I can't decide whether or not cut that bit of white off the bottom and I'm thinking of adding a small banner sentiment later when I have an occasion to send it....what do you think?

Supplies:
Paper - Neenah; DCWV Citrus Stack
Other - Martha Stewart punch

Today on the May Arts blog, I've got a tutorial for you to make this elegant pillow for the ring bearer to carry down the aisle.    Pop over and tell me what you think.

Old Guys Rule

It's time for the monthly sketch challenge SSNSC06 over at the Sparkle N Sprinkle Blog

I decided to flip the sketch to landscape and took the liberty enlarging the circle to make it my focal point...I mean, like, this old guy is a big dude and that small circle just wouldn't hold him.  ;-)

I used my favorite DCWV Citrus Stack, a bit of wavy stitching and that bendy ruler I showed you in my WOYWW post was used to create the wavy border panel.  I even gave him a bit of sun burn.  LOL

It was really warm here today...pushing 90 so a cool dip in the pool was my inspiration. (Ours is too cool for me still...brrrr)

For those of you who made a guess as to which one was me in the WOYWW post yesterday....well, you were all wrong.  I'm the one on the R with the gigantic forehead.  Thanks, Dad...and yes, I still have it and keep it well covered up with bangs.

Thanks for stopping by...I appreciate your comments.
