Teapot Tuesday - Butterflies to Fight Like a Girl

If it's Tuesday, it must be time for the Teapot Tuesday Challenge MMTPT 110 and Destination Station.  This week our cards are going to Madison, Mississippi.  A fellow SCSer has been diagnosed with breast cancer.  Her name is Jackie aka m&m's grandma (here's her gallery) on SCS.   I hear that Jackie loves butterflies, flowers and anything frilly.  I immediately pulled out my Flourishes Think Pink, Fight Like a Girl set.  Sadly, it's been getting too much use lately.

I used the Mojo Monday week 155 sketch:

                                      

Nothing like the teapot which is bright blue but I just couldn't find any mojo to use that color.  I'm hoping this will be frilly enough to make Jackie smile.  I colored then cut out and paper pieced the bodice, heat embossed the whole thing, and glittered it up a bit with a Sakura gel pen. I made my own DP with PTI's Damask Designs.  I used some frilly May Arts Scalloped Edge Satin Ribbon (EN10) to add to the frilly aspect that Jackie loves so much.

CAS83 Sketch Challenge & a May Arts Tutorial

Somebody pinch me!  This is my first post as a member of the CAS Fall DT on Splitcoast.  I still can hardly believe it!  Our challenge this week  CAS83 is a sketch by Denise aka resqbarbie.  Denise is a pro at clean and simple design.

I used an old SU set, Simple Shapes for the moon.  I inked the circle with SU Pumpkin Pie then lightly tapped it in More Mustard.   The witch was stamped in Versafine Black, then again in Versamark and heat embossed using black EP.  That cute silver jack-o-lantern was in that huge bottle of charms I won in the House Mouse challenge. 

Jen, our moderator has revamped the definition of the CAS challenges. I think the new definition makes CAS simpler to understand and execute:

The Cutting Cafe Welcome Fall & Foodie Friday

This my second post today...a bit late but hope you'll forgive me...still pinching myself.  ;-)

I found some adorable little cuffed bags made from recycled paper...they've got the most wonderful texture and even came with a little rectangle tag.  I thought they would be perfect for a couple of perfect fall crop apples...crisp and cold.  (don't forget you can always clicky on the photos to make them bigger.)  I may put a few of these in my Etsy shop. 

That lovely basket of apples and the apple on my tag are from The Cutting Cafe's Welcome Fall set.  This is a huge set of 46 images and sentiments complete with everything you need for fall cards and layouts.   I colored the basket and apples with Copic markers, cut them out and popped them up on dimensionals.  I used the All Occasion Word Set 3 for the circle sentiment on the tag.

That gorgeous double sided satin ribbon on my bag is May Arts Double Faced Satin (HA33).  It compliments the kraft bag perfectly.  I just applied strips of Scor-Tape around the bag and pressed on my ribbon.  I love that I don't have to worry if the wrong side of the ribbon is showing because there is no wrong side!  Gotta love that.

Ok..here's the Foodie Friday I promised earlier today...

Grilled Guacamole

                               

                                     

This is our new favorite Guacamole (Cuisine at Home) and it's so easy...you can have this dinner on the table in under an hour.

Grilled Guacamole  (I made on 1/4 this recipe for the two of us)

4 firm yet ripe avocados, halved, pitted,  brushed with oil

3 T.  fresh lime juice

1/4 c. red onion, minced

1/4 c. chopped  fresh cilantro

2 T. jalapeno, seeded, minced

2 T. garlic, minced

Kosher salt to taste

Preheat grill to med.   Grill avocados, cut sidendown, until marks appear, about 2 minutes.  Remove from the grill peel and mash with the lime juice until creamy using a fork.  Stir in remaining ingredients. 

That's it!  It's sooooo yummy...this is just one meal I serve it with:

                                      

Veggie Quesadillas  (this recipe serves 4...if you need more, just add more veggies!)

1 med. onion,  thinly sliced

1 med. zucchini, thinly sliced

1 med. yellow squash, thinly sliced

8 oz. mushrooms, cleaned and thinly sliced

1 clove garlic, minced

1 T. olive oil

1 can fat-free refried beans

4 oz. shredded cheese (your choice- cheddar, Mexican, Monterey Jack or a combo)

8 - 8 "  flour tortillas (I used 5 10" because that's what I had on hand)

Salsa

shredded lettuce

diced tomatoes

sour cream

grilled guacamole

Place oil in large skillet and warm over med-high heat.  Add the veggies and cook until the veggies are tender and just slightly carmelized about 7-10 minutes.

Warm the tortillas in a skillet or in the microwave until soft and pliable.  Lay the tortillas out.

Spread the beans evenly on half of each tortilla.  Top with some of the veggie mixture.  Sprinkle with cheese.  Fold in half.  Repeat with each tortilla.

Brush each tortilla with a tiny bit of olive oil.  Place on a hot griddle (about 350 degrees) or in a skillet over med. heat.  Pan grill until nicely browned and crispy.  The cheese should be melted and the interior should be hot. 

Remove from griddle, slice each quesadilla into 3-4 pieces.  Serve with salsa, shredded lettuce, diced tomato, sour cream and guacamole.

Oh, Happy Day!

No Foodie this morning...I did bake cookies yesterday but they were the yummy Chocolate Chip Cookies with Andes mint chips.  YUMO...  I'll be back later today with something yummy for you but I did want to share some happy news.

I can't wrap my head around it quite yet and when I read it, I screamed so loudly that the dog thought we were having a party.  She started jumping around, too....

My happy news?   I am one of the new Design Team members on the SplitcoastStampers Clean and Simple Fall DT!    Off to bed so that I can wake up and see if it's still real.

CAS One Layer Cards

I had just a tiny bit of stamping time today so I was really excited to be able to ink up these Flourishes Kids Play images.  I love the elegant script and playful images.  I simply stamped them onsome elegant Fabriano cards then added a strip of luscious  black velvet rick rack from May Arts (WR10).  No tying or wrapping!  I just placed a 1/8"strip of Scor-Tape on the rick rack and pressed it on my card.  Easy, Peasy!!

Teapot Tuesday - The Amazing Miss Eula

   

Our Teapot Destination Staion this week is Philadelphia, PA, the home of Mrs. Eula Cousins.  Miss Eula will be celebrating her 108th (!!) birthday on Sept. 14th.

Miss Eula has lived a very adventurous and colorful life (you can read about her on the link) so our assignment was to make our cards bright and colorful.  Miss Eula loves travel, learning and used to have a large flower garden.  She also has a parrot that she loves.  I decided to bring her a flower and an as yet, unnamed bird to keep her parrot company.

I used Sketch 295 as my inspiration.  I made the flower using an assortment of punches.

Take a Bite Out of Life - House Mouse

Don't you just adore House Mouse images?  I sure do.  This is one of the images I won in the House Mouse challenge awhile back.  I'm so glad I finally got a chance to ink it up...They are really easy to color.  The sentiment is actually on the inside of the card.  Remember you can always click on any photo for a closer look.

I made this for the Clean and Simple Challege on SCS this week.  CAS82 - Delicious  Come and play along...just create something CAS with something you think is "delicious"....now chocolate isn't my most favorite something delicious, (I'm a fruit girl) but it is my DH's most favorite.  Now don't interpret  fruit to mean I eat healthy all the time!  When I say fruit, I mean apple pie, peach cobbler, blackberry crisp, plum jam, blueberry pancakes...you get the picture!  LOL

Blessed Sunday

Yeah!!  I made it to the final round of the Clean and Simple Fall Design team search.  The field is now narrowed down to 10 and only 3 will be chosen for the actual team.   There will also be Guest Designers announced.  Even if I don't make the team (again...I've been the bridesmaid a couple of times now) it's been great fun and challenges the brain.

The challenge for the third round is "Couples".  We are to use 2 of something.   You know me, I can't just leave well enough alone so I used several "couples".   My apologies in advance, it's been cloudy and rainy today so my photo lighting is terrible.

I decided to make a gift card holder instead of a card.   Here's are my "couples".....

Stamp Simply 154 - A Color Challenge & Foodie Friday

Today is my last day as Guest Designer on Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply blog.  I want to say a big "Thank You" to Sharon and the team for making me feel so welcome.  I consider it to have been a high honor and priviledge to have been able to create with this talented group of stampers. 

The last challenge of this month is a color challenge.  I was soooo excited to see the colors because it meant I got to use one of my very favorite paper packs from SEI, Black Orchid.  I'm so glad I went ahead and purchased the puffy stickers at the same time!

Aren't those colors yummy?  Our challenge is to use Turquoise, Orange, White/Cream with black as an option.  I tried to make a card but the mojo just wasn't there so opted for a little notepad/pen gift set.

 I used the template by Nicole Heady.  Super simple and so fast when you need a quick gift.

I have eaten this salad most of my life.  My family is of Middle Eastern heritage and I never had salad dressing in a bottle until I met my DH.  This is one of the easiest and healthiest salads you can eat.  No carbohydrates and no acid (lemon juice is alkaline).  

It's perfect for those summer tomatoes and cucumbers and you can make it ahead!  It can be doubled or cut in half easily so it's perfect for any occasion. 

Insalata (Tossed Salad)

2 cloves garlic (more or less to taste)

1/4 c. fresh lemon juice (don't use that stuff in the bottle)

1/4 c. olive oil

pinch of kosher salt

2-3 tomatoes, cut into small chunks or you may use grape tomatoes to taste, cut in half

1 med. cucumber, cut into small chunks

1 med. green pepper, cut into slivers or chunks

1 large head romaine lettuce

Mint, about 2 T. fresh, chopped or 1 t. dried crumbled

Pound garlic with salt until mashed. I use a mortar and pestle but you can do it right in the bowl with the back of a knife like my mom did.  ;-)   Add lemon juice and olive oil.  Whisk until combined.

Pour the dressing into a salad bowl.  In the order listed add: tomatoes, cucumber, and green pepper.  Tear the romaine into bite size pieces and put on top of vegetables.  Sprinkle with mint.

At this point, you can cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until serving time.  The lettuce will become more crisp as it sits.  When ready to serve, toss well until all ingredients are coated with the dressing.  Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.

Serves 4-6

Dance Recital

Well, I made the first cut of 20 for the SCS Clean and Simple Fall DT!  I have to tell you, though...this is one talented group of 20 ladies and the competition is tough.   Our challenge theme is Teacher's Pet and this 2nd challenge sub-title is "Fashion Statement".  We were to use a "tiny bit" of designer paper on our cards.

I remembered that dance lessons for our DGD begin when school starts so I grabbed this gorgeous stamp from Impression Obsession I bought a few years ago.  My DH was the final decision maker on color.  I gave him a choice of pink, rose or black.

 

I stamped it in black Versafine, then again in Versamark.  I  heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.   I have two favorite parts.  The gorgeous black silk May Arts ribbon and the overskirt I created from a bit of tulle I picked up in the $1 spot at JoAnn's awhile back.  I used a T1 Copic marker to accent the skirt under the tulle.

Welcome Home

 

I am so happy! Regina at The Cutting Cafe has just designed a brand new Scalloped Circle Card Template set and a Circle Scallop set. Now if you don't have those expesive circle cutting shapes, you can just print them out! How cool is that! Not only that, they come in lots more sizes...

I combined both sets with the The Cutting Cafe's new Welcome Home set of ....55 stamps! Stamps for new neighbors, new homes, moving, open houses, realtors, adorable little houses, invitations, and card frames!   Enough to keep us busy for a long time. 

I fell in love with this little house that looks like it's ready to burst with all the love inside.

Teapot Tuesday and The Unsinkable Molly Brown Cutting Cafe Style

This week's Teapot Tuesday Challenge (MMTPT108) on SplitcoastStampers is based on the Unsinkable Molly Brown.  The Destination Station  this week is a 14 year old girl named Alea who has undergone multiple surgeries and infections over the past 18 months.  Alea loves everything Molly Brown after visiting the Molly Brown House Museum.   If you have an extra card in your stash that you'd like to send to Alea, her information is here.

Here's bit of  Molly Brown history from the Mothermark aka Cindy on SCS. 

 Everyone knows Molly Brown from The Titanic but there is so much more to know about her. Her name was Margaret Tobin and she only became Molly when the Unsinkable Molly Brown musical was written. She loved big hats and expensive dresses and although everything was red in the musical her favorite color was really green. Two of the bedrooms in the museum are covered in green satin. She was very involved in getting the right to vote for woman and she also was one of the founders of the Denver Dumb Friends which is celebrating it's one hundred year anniversary. She was quite educated, spoke six languages including Russian and French and she was one of the first women in the state to have a driver's license. Her fame came from her adventure on the Titanic and when asked why she thought she survived, she shrugged and said, "I guess I am just unsinkable." Margaret was married to J.J. and J.J. raised chickens! He even added on to the carriage house in order to have more room for chickens!!

Here's my card and here's the catch.....for everything "Molly" we included on our cards, we have to take one of J.J.'s chickens.  Soooo...I've got a few chickens running around here...6 to be exact!  I used the adorable Dress Shaped Card from The Cutting Cafe...I love that this dress can be custom designed to suit any occasion. You can see some other examples here.

This was really simple to make.  I just cut out the card and dress overlay templates. Glued and embellished.  I used Scor-Tape to adhere the ribbons and glue dots for the flowers.  Easy Peasy!

Here's what I included to get all these darn chickens...a frilly dress, lace, green satin, fancy ribbons, a sash and pearls...hope they don't make me take a chicken for each pearl!  Yikes!

Clean and Simple Monday

What a delightful surprise I had this morning when I opened my blog and saw that I was the winner on the Sentimental Sunday blog!  What a blessing!  This week's challenge #17 is Words that Inspire and just in case you don't have any inspiring words, Ann is giving a freebie but hurry, the download is good for one week only.

 

I have two CAS (Clean and Simple) creations for you today.  The first one is the first challenge in the Fall DT search on SCS.  Come along and play...someone has to win, right?

We were to use the theme "Teacher's Pet" and punches.  I think this is the fastest card I have made in my life!  So glad I have a photo to remember the moment...it will not likely happen again.  LOL

 

I embossed the base layer with a Spellbinders Long Rectangle die, the punched the apples from Bitty Box Basics dp, then added the sentiment from Teacher's Apple.  That's it!

Here's my card for today's CAS81 Krafty Turquoise color challenge and the Sentimental Sunday Words to Inspire challenge #17...Now don't you think this would "inspire" you to feel better?  ;-) I stamped the shoe, then clear embossed it, cut it out and popped it up on dimensionals.

CAS Celebrate!

7 Kids College Fund has a brand new challenge blog.  This week's Challenge #2 is "Strip it Down!"  No more than two layers.  Perfect for sharpening up those CAS skills that many of you have said you'd like to more of. 

I used the sketch from Clean and Simple Stamping's Fall to Layout 101.  It's not current and I had to eliminate one layer for the challenge but I added some interest by embossing by base cardstock.

I used this darling cupcake set from Inkadinkadoo called Birthday Cupcake.  Lots of yummy cupcakes to satisfy your cardmaking appetite.  I frosted mine with Crystal Effects and sprinkled on some glass beads.  The flavor?  Chocolate, of course!

Stamp Simply Pleated Ribbon Challenge and Foodie Friday

It's Friday and that means it's time for Sharon Johnson's Stamp Simply Challenge (ssnotime153). 

This week Sharon challenged us to used pleated ribbon (for this challenge gathers count, too!)  I decided to try a really tight gather...those are pleats close together, right?  ;-)  I mixed it up by adding tiny pearls in the gathers.  The ribbon is adhered to the cardstock with tiny bits of Scor-Tape every 1/2" or so. 

That yummy spray of pearls are actually favor ties that I found in the wedding dept. at Michaels for about $2.  I cut off the paper covered wire and attached the pearl spray with a glue dot.  I just love that linen cardstock!  It's Cosmo Cricket's Core Impressions.  You can distress it, sand it, and/or tear it.  I had fun distressing, sanding and doing some meandering sewing on it.

The floral DP is from Webster's Pages Lullaby Lane.  I cut around the image then sponged the edges with PTI's Chamomile ink for some depth.

Now for Foodie Friday....I spent the afternoon baking for my DH.  His company is treating the employees to a pig roast tomorrow.  My contribution is Chocolate Chip cookies, BBQ Bacon Baked Beans and this monster Blackberry Crumble.  This bad boy (or girl!) weighs in at 15 lbs. and has 6 quarts of blackberries in it!!!  You northern girls should be picking yours now so I thought you might want some enabling.

Well, it's finally here!  It's blogaversary day!  It all began here and 433 posts later, my life is not my own.  LOL  I've learned alot and most of all, I've had the immense pleasure of "meeting" amazingly talented women from all over the world.  I've been blessed to have been asked to be on several design teams and still shake my head over the wonder of it all.
